Steps to becoming a new referee

STEP 1: Log In to US Soccer Learning Center

New referees will need to log in to US Soccer Learning Center and create a referee profile. For those that have previously held a soccer referee license, you can log in to view previous licenses held. 

STEP 2: Register for and Complete Grassroots Referee Course

- Click on "COURSES" and then "AVAILABLE COURSES."

- New candidates should select “Grassroots - First Time Referees”.

- After course payment, courses can be found by clicking on “Courses” and then “My

Courses”.

STEP 3: Complete a Background Check (18+)

A background check will need to be completed through the US Soccer Learning Center for all referees over the age of 18.

STEP 4: Complete SAFESPORT Training (18+)

SAFESPORT training can be found and completed through the US Soccer Learning Center. This is also a requirement for anyone over the age of 18.

STEP 5: Complete Intro to Safe and Healthy Playing Environment

Complete this 30 minute training module through your US Soccer Learning Center profile.

STEP 6: Register below for the Upcoming In-Person Courses

STEP 7: Receive Your Badge!

Once you have completed all of the above steps, you will be mailed your referee badge. If you do not, please contact Chris Griffin: cgriffin@elucidateinc.com.

First Time Referees: Register for the Upcoming In-Person Course

We offer In-Person courses to teach members what to expect on game day, review the laws and how to implement them, the check in procedures, how to properly wear your uniform, flag mechanics, etc.

This form will constantly be changing as we add more classes.


It is not required but highly suggested that you obtain your referee uniform before attending the in person course. If you do not have your uniform kit before your course, please wear athletic attire.
