New referees will need to log in to US Soccer Learning Center and create a referee profile. For those that have previously held a soccer referee license, you can log in to view previous licenses held.
- Click on "COURSES" and then "AVAILABLE COURSES."
- New candidates should select “Grassroots - First Time Referees”.
- After course payment, courses can be found by clicking on “Courses” and then “My
Courses”.
A background check will need to be completed through the US Soccer Learning Center for all referees over the age of 18.
SAFESPORT training can be found and completed through the US Soccer Learning Center. This is also a requirement for anyone over the age of 18.
Complete this 30 minute training module through your US Soccer Learning Center profile.

Once you have completed all of the above steps, you will be handed your badge at the in-person course.
US Soccer states that First-Time USSF referees must attend an in-person course. We offer In-Person courses to teach members what to expect on game day, review the laws and how to implement them, the check in procedures, how to properly wear your uniform, flag mechanics, etc.

It is not required but highly suggested that you obtain your referee uniform before attending the in person course. If you do not have your uniform kit before your course, please wear athletic attire and bring water.
